Case worker out of line during off-site Dr visit

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Michael W i an inpatient at Encompass had an off-site Dr appt at 8am we get at the hospital and told there are important tests and labs he needs. We call Encompass our floor to tell the nurses we have to stay for these tests nothing is said. Then while on the table having a painful test done he's screamed at unprofessionally by a case worker that we weren't suppose to have any tests. Sorry if my husband Dr says he needs these tests and we pay for insurance he's getting the test. When he's paying insurance premium and your hosp is getting paid and he does what your therapists and Drs ask he will also do that with his real physicians. It's unacceptable to be yelled and screamed at by a caseworker who knew and arranged the appointment to begin with. That is not ok and this will be resolved one way or another

Unprofessional all around

Poor communication. The caregivers that I encountered while my mother was at encompass Chattanooga were unprofessional at best. They did not involve me in her plan of care. Her case manager was unwilling to help find resources in our community to help care for my mother. They discharged her home to care for herself knowing she was unable to do so. They also did not go over her discharge orders with me , her caregiver and POA. They also released unknowingly another patients discharge papers to me attached to my mothers which is a huge hoops violation. I would not send my worst enemy to this establishment for care. Shame on you for elder neglect.

Cons:
  • Poor discharge planning and no communication with poa much argume

Preferred solution: I would like the case manager to be counseled on appropriate customer service as well as communication skills. She also needs to be educated on how to preform her job duties

Incompetent Doctor over medicated me with psychotropic drugs!

He then had the gall to tell me I only gave you what you asked for. I never used them before, why would I start now? Since when do Doctors give you psychotropic drugs on demand? I had to be transferred to a hospital to detox! I was sent back to Encompass so they could collect 10 more days of insurance money! The Physical and Occupational Therapists were great. The only good thing about the place, and what earned them a 1. The Circus starts at 5am with staff laughing and talking loudly about patients and the staffs personal lives. So much for HIPPA. If you need inpatient rehab, look elsewhere.

No one answering phones

i called 2-3 times a day to nurse station and main office. no one answered the phone.

my elderly brother with dementia, injuries, weakness was a patient. because of ice storm we were unable to drive on streets and hwys. carol, the manager gave us wrong information. she said brother was alert, orientated and up brushing his teeth.

brother has not had teeth in 10 years. when we were able to see him, he could not remember anything past 20 yrs ago and too weak to speak except in a whisper. carol tried to prevent us from getting him into a nursing home, insisting he would be delivered to 76 yr old sister house to care for all his needs. which included incontient needs, two large abrasions and heel pressure sore.

diagnosis: severe dementia, heart attack, tia's and effects from being found lying in a cold floor for a least 6 hrs. no improvement from 8 days of therapy.

unfortunately, that happens in healthcare at times. You could try calling the Chief Nursing Officer or Quality Control Director and get something done while your family member stays in any facility, not just Encompass Health.

I have seen people come in and not progress, and some come in and end up walking with a walker before discharge. It really just depends on the person, since everyone is different. It says that in the admission paper work as well. You can call to get a copy of it if you don't have it already.

I am sorry that happened to your family member. I know sometimes patients will come to us with those types of wounds from the previous facility, whether it be directly from the ICU or from LTAC. And, if the staff doesn't tell you what happened or updates you on the progress you may think it was all Encompass Health that did it. I know its frustrating because as an Rehab Nurse that works for this company I have to talk with families and explain all the things that have happened etc.

and it may be the day before discharge and its my first day to work with the patient.

I hope that your family member is being taken care of now. I would recommend to check on them as well if they are in a nursing home, as those things can happen in there as well.

Encompass Health - Horrified at lack of concern over dying patients and family
Updated by user Oct 21, 2021

I'm dropping them. Encompass is not able to care for my dying Father in a compassionate way.

They are negligent and did not stop infection in his bed sore when it was possible.

My Father is suffering due to their lack on concern and or desire to come and clean his wound daily or spend the money on the appropriate products for the problem. Greed....

Original review Oct 21, 2021
1. not concerned about preventing pain in the future. 2. use of cheap an inefficient products. 3. staff not prepared or trained. 4. no point person to work with directly, must tell 3-7 people your story over and over taking precious time away from loved one. 5. understaffed. 6. not vaccinated. 7. they don't work on weekends of after hours. 8. did not have a medical director for well over a month. 9. do not respond rapidly to emergencies. 10. do not recognize necrosis or infection in bed sores. 11. staff is defensive and childish if you criticize them or request better. 12. clearly only out for money. 13. doctor not available ever. 14. pathetic care....just distressing.

Unfair tactics

The techs should not be responsible for washing the linens they use to take care of the patients. The hospital should be responsible to supply the workers with the supplies they need to take care of the patients. Should the linens be washed by an employee of Encompass Health, then house keeping or a laundry department should open for such task! The techs are busy taking care of the patients not the linens.

User's recommendation: Hire someone to do the laundry instead of piling the chore on the people that are already overloaded.

I'm Pissed that I have not been able to visit my mother yet!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My Mother was moved from the hospital to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of East Valley on Monday, 7/19.21. On Tuesday, 7/20/21, my wife and I went to visit her. My wife was checked in first and when I tried to check in, I was tole there is a 2 visitor limit per patient per day, so I could not see her. On Wednesday, 7/21/21, my wife was out shopping and stopped by to check on her. She had no sooner arrived at the room when a doctor came in with only about 20 minutes left of visiting hours and kicked her out. My mother protested, but it did not matter. This facility is not patient or visitor friendly at all and I am considering having my mother move to a more friendly facility. I would not recommend this facility to anyone with family or friends. It is run by IDIOTS.I'm Po Atlanta, GA. Not local.

1. It's called HIPPA.....your wife is NOT privy to your mother's confidential health information.

2.

Maybe you haven't noticed but this country is in a pandemic! Do you want covid positive people milling about the facility?

This clinic is absolutely terrible, they do not care about anyone's mental health. As they claim Their only concern is money. My child wanted to kill himself and had suicidal thoughts, so I took my child here for help. I asked to make a payment plan so that we could continue my childs visits and the front office staff states "Well if you can't afford to be seen weekly, maybe you can decrease your visits monthly to be seen every 2 weeks, or you can do 45-minute visits. That might be more in your price range. I told them I would have to put my childs visits on hold for the time being because I cannot afford that and BOOM, their staff member didnt even bat an eye EVERY appointment was cancelled and they informed me that they sent my final bill via Email and if I could work on getting that paid off quickly, so they dont have to send me to collections. Now we are searching for a therapist. I am absolutely disgusted.NnNO

Killed my Mother

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My Mom entered Encompass in Woburn, Mass after the hospital diagnosed her with a neurological issue. After being a patient at Encompass for a week and a half, her leg, ankle and foot swelled up dramatically. As it turned out, after a number of phone calls to the incompetent "doctor", the nurses at Encompass completely mishandled her insulin. They either gave her too much insulin or too little insulin. When blood sugar is imbalanced, neurological issues worsen. She was able to come home after that week and a half only to go back in due to a blood glucose level of 600+. We sent her back to Encompass due to the fact that they were allowing visitors in for a limited time. While she was there, they closed the place off to all visitors. That's when she started getting really sick. My Mom's blood sugar was getting worse and she was becoming more confused. My first thought was Bill Ga......I mean.....some sort of "flu shot" that Encompass had given her. After all, the "doctor" gave her an anti-depressant without informing our family (due to those manipulative HIPAA rules). We were able to get her home as these "doctors" deemed her healthy enough. Unfortunately, during the few hours at her home with her loving husband and son, she was very confused and terrified to take her insulin. She was too afraid of the NEEDLE. How does THAT happen to a 30+ year diabetic?! An hour later, she was able to give herself the insulin. Two more hours go by and she fell onto the floor screaming. My Dad and I called an ambulance. The EMT's took her blood sugar and said it was over 500. They took her to the hospital and she coded. The hospital revived her for a little while, for the $$$$.......NOT "frontline heroes", but I will be dealing with Lahey in another article. My Mom left Encompass on December 11, 2020. She left this world on December 31, 2020 mostly due to Encompass' incompetence. Here's the lesson as it applies to my rating for Encompass: If you have a diabetic in the family or are a diabetic yourself, avoid Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital at all cost!

NOT A PLACE FOR STROKE OR BRAIN INJURY PATIENTS!!!!!!!!!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My husband was admitted early July 2019. He had had a stroke 2.5 years ago and had regressed. Before going in he could walk, toilet himself, cook for himself etc...After leaving that hospital he could no longer walk, dress himself or toilet himself. They kept him in bed and refused to get him up to walk. I begged the nurses to help him walk to the toilet. They would use a urinal in the bed or put him in a wheelchair and wheel him to the toilet. I would have taken him out of there after a week but I had no help at home. Our son flew out to help me, after 4 days at home he was walking again! They do not know how to handle the brain injury behaviors and will them in bed. The nurses are terrible and did nothing I requested. I asked them to call me when he refused therapy...not one call! I will never take my Stroke Survivor to a place like this again!!!

I went to UMC Hospital, and was getting help for my stroke I didn't know I was having. All would have been good if I would have had care. But UMC hospital sent me to EncompassHealth for care, which I did not get, and EncompassHealth sent me home in 10 days alone. My daughter had to move into my home to care for me. EncompassHealth saying I have to go home. They would not keep me until I was better, they would not send me to a nursing home where I would have had suitable care. They only care about MONEY. I was ignored, neglected, and received NO CARE. I wished I would have went to Mountain View Hospital or Dignity Hospital, I would have had safe care, I would have had care. EncompassHealth is so bad, they just send you home so to make money, They are so bad that they changed their name, they were HealthSouth, but they changed their name because they are so bad. They are bad. I and my family asked to talk to the doctor and the doctor never comes, the nurse never comes when called, they just turn off my light. My daughter just cried feeling bad. There was nothing we could do to get care. I'm told if I would have went anywhere else, that I could have 100 days of care, at Advanced Rehab, or any nursing home. Stay away from UMC, Thank you for the shaft UMC. Stay away from EncompassHealth,, Thank you for NOTHING.

The photo says it all ; note the left side, the sign reading "Trauma". They apparently don't treat it, they cause it.

And just look at those *** people lined up laughing.

Hope they are having a good joke and a nice life soaking up the money. Their time is coming as well ; maybe they will check into their own place for some of that advertised Trauma.

UMC and EncompassHealth are dangerous, neglectful, out for money.
